Philip

Phil Purdie was persuaded to leave his local church choir and start his popular musical career at the tender age of 14, as "the singer" in a school pop group, "Blend 6". The group played in and around Lewes in the mid 60's performing at pubs and parties as well as a supporting act for the The Shades, Brian Poole & The Tremeloes, The Chequers etc.

During his college days, he taught himself accompaniment guitar and moved into the folk genre where he developed arrangements of The Wild Rover and My Old Man's a Dustman which he still performs today! Unfortunately, a block was placed on these activities in 1979 when his career took him to the City of London to work and forced commuting upon him!

He returned to performing music in 1991, singing in the tenor section of Ditchling Choral Society, before becoming exhausted by 2003 by the high volume, monochrome tones required from this all-too-often small group of male voices in a big choir. This he remedied by starting a small chamber choir called Vivace! (of which he is still a very active member) where he met John Sandford, who played excellent keyboards and was learning bass guitar. In 2006, the two started The Beamers, performing songs from recent decades that are strong on melody and good harmonies.
