Russ
The
formation of Vivace! in 2003 opened up a wealth of new possibilities and
led to groups - often involving Phil - such as the Awbrook Singers
(classical quartet), Infernal Triangle (folk/contemporary trio) and the
Scallywags (folk/ceilidh).
It was these latter enterprises which led to Russ rekindling a long-dormant love affair with the penny whistle. He has a growing collection (harem?) of these and particularly likes them because they rarely need tuning, don't need plugging into anything and can travel as hand luggage!
Russ
cites amongst his musical influences Maddy Prior, Kate Rusby & the
ludicrously-talented John McCusker although he can never hope to match
their skills (or vocal range). He was chuffed to be invited to add backing
harmonies and whistle riffs to the expanding Beamers line-up, especially
as he's never owned or driven a BMW. |
